About AIESEP

AIESEP is a non-governmental, professional association promoting high quality research in physical education, physical activity and sport pedagogy including sport coaching. Researchers are interested in informing high quality evidence-based participation and learning in sport, exercise and other forms of physical activity throughout the lifespan for diverse individuals and communities, and for all levels of ability/disability. AIESEP is a multilingual and multicultural association comprising universities, colleges and institutions, in addition to individual members. The working language of the association is English.

In order to promote high quality research in the areas of physical education, physical activity and sport pedagogy including sport coaching across the lifespan, AIESEP aims to meet the following objectives:

  • To promote and support excellent scientific research in professional preparation and professional practice in physical education, physical activity and sport pedagogy across the lifespan.
  • To organise scientific meetings and information dissemination mechanisms which facilitate the sharing of new knowledge with the international community.
  • To endorse appropriate scientific meetings which further the aims of AIESEP.
  • To promote cross-cultural research.
  • To co-operate with international bodies to advocate for physical education, physical activity and sport pedagogy across the lifespan.
  • To provide evidence-based advice to government and international institutions.
  • To develop policies which ensure that AIESEP activities are relevant and of service to the members which comprise it.

Scientific meetings are at the core of AIESEP’s activities in striving to meet these objectives. It is through the gathering of professionals and researchers and the sharing of knowledge that AIESEP can reach its goals effectively. Through AIESEP scientific meetings, research is disseminated, professional relationships are fostered, researchers at early stages of their careers receive support and advice, and experts within the organisation reach consensus on topical issues in order to inform policy and effect change.
